Skegness Town JFC are delighted to announce that we are going to be running an Under 18’s team for the 2020/21 Season in the Lincolnshire Intermediate Under 18’s Football League.

The intermediate player pathway is considered to be a sensible route for players post Under 16’s, at a time when players face difficult choices on how to continue their progress in football. Head coach Dale Houlston commented “It’s a strange time for young players. When they reach 16 years of age technically they are eligible to play open age football, but our experience has been that many of them have concerns about jumping straight into playing with and against essentially mature men. For some that can be counter-productive to football development, or even retaining them in the game. So we hope that by providing an Under 18’s side to play in, we genuinely bridge that gap between junior football and eventually men’s football. That doesn’t mean to say that we won’t be bringing highly talented players to the attention of Skegness Town AFC manager Nathan Collins. We absolutely will, and we hope he will come down and watch the boys play and consider them for any of the Skegness Town AFC teams. In fact that is exactly what we want, a situation where hopefully we will be producing some locally developed talent to go on to the senior club”.

This season’s Under 18’s team will be led by local coaches Stuart Capes and Jamie Kilner. On the decision to launch the Under 18’s Jamie Kilner commented “It is pleasing that we’ve made the decision to run at Under 18’s. We did consider remaining in the Mid Lincs League at Under 17’s, but the intermediate league is a better reflection on the needs of the players. It enables us to keep a constant flow of young footballers playing, from essentially two age groups. We already know that we have a good crop of youngsters to launch with this season, and there is some super talent in the year group below too, that will be ready for the following season”.
